The part of Asia that I grew up in, near Vietnam, was very productive in Sugar Cane growing. These plants are useful
for a variety of products, including sugar , ethanol, mollasses, and rum. The careless destruction of our own life supports
however, is absurd, so it is comforting to know that measures are taken to preserve our natural habitat. Scientific reports
on Ozone holes in the atmosphere almost seem too ethereal to believe, but when part of the solution to the problem is given
in restriction of using certain aerosol spray cans we find it simple enough to resort to other means. However, when it comes
to preserving natural forests, or using alternative propulsion systems in vehicles, things become more complex. Civilisation
constructions generally try to protect us from forests containing poisonous insects and plants, disease carrying microbes,
the man eating bears, wildcats, crocodiles and goring tusked animals of the wild. With all of the health hazzards contained
by jungle forests, the trees contained are actually our source of oxygen, as well as other treasures. Ecosystem destruction
is then deterred by the market value of timber and other forest products, but less well known of is the threat to soil stability,
watershed and flood protection, and climate regulation. Changes in productivity of such areas can impact a populace's income
and workforce requirements, or even be opposed by it. These areas can be a valued recreational location, and with some publicity
they can become a tourist attraction. In addition, logging companies can operate on a sustained tree growth basis,
and will even replant trees if necessary. Another threat to forests, however, is the chemical toxins of industrial wastes
and air pollution from transportation as well ("Engineering and Environment" ).
With our very air supplies on this planet being threatened, we might even be relieved to know that fuel supplies for
transportation are also in short supply. Fuel is conserved by use of solar and nuclear energy and efficiency improvements
of machinery. One of the largest energy wasting industries, transportation is economised by increasing rail and shipping use
for freight. Some ships have been built with computerised mechanical sails that give 10%-15% propulsion power savings,
and automobile manufacturers have produced hybrid electric/ petrol powered vehicles to save fuel as well. These switch from
electric to petrol power when voltage runs low, but regeneration can also be achieved by brake adaptation or even solar panels.
Improvements in battery construction have enabled electric cars to travel 200 km at 120 km/h maximum ("History of the Electric
Automobile"). Interestingly though, the bicycle is the most energy efficient means of transport available, where
as horse riding is hardly efficient at all considering plant energy production used for feed. Plants produce stored energy
by the photosynthesis process, combining carbon dioxide and water using sunlight. Plant energy conversion is not very high
at 1.6% maximum in Napier grass, and 1.2% in the more significant sugar cane crop. Forests and other field plants have
much lower efficiencies at 0.4%. Even so, this energy can be utilised, and with the conversion of sugar to ethyl alcohol
at 60% efficiency, sugar cane can contribute significantly to fuel savings with the product of fuel additives. It can be calculated
then, that 30% of Australia's crop area currently used for food would supply the entire energy consumption requirements of
the nation, an area totaling 64,200 square kilometers. Solar power can be utilised in direct water heating energy savings
or, with large enough solar collector mirror area, it can be concentrated to produce steam for generator drive. This
is disadvantaged by cloud cover in areas of varying weather conditions, and latitude will determine how much sunlight can
reach the part of the world this equipment is located in. Electric power can be more simply drawn from solar energy by use
of dissimilar metal heating in solar cells, at some expense. Solar powered electricity requires remote arid areas, however,
and not many townships suit the conditions required for this method, but it is used for irrigation pump power in many parts
of Australia. On a clear day in these Australian settings, 400 Watts per square meter would be received. A solar pond
uses water depth temperature differences between fresh and saline layers to heat and condense a turbine driving fluid, a specialised
source of solar power (" Thermodynamics and Fluid Dynamics" by Roger Kinsky). Other power sources available
for city power grid supply, or the option of electric vehicle battery recharging, are hydro-electric dams, wind farms, geothermal
bores, and nuclear reactors. The most efficient is hydro-electric generation at 90%, although dams are often quite remote
as well in mountainous areas. Tidal and wave motion can be used similarly to generate electricity, but often is also only
efficient in remote locations. Geothermal energy is tapped by boring to underground heat sinks caused by seismic or radioactive
effects. As Uranium is a radioactive fuel, it can be used to generate electricity in reinforced fission reactors similarly,
and can be used in breeder reactors to produce plutonium fuel at the same time. Well established in the United States, neuclear
reactors have on the other hand been known to explode in Russia, and only small scale medical radiology reactors are used
in Australia. It does appear to be more environmentally friendly to avoid mass destruction and nationwide nuclear fall-out
pollution!
Now when the United States is reported to be building oil industries in the Middle East, one has to question why
they are really at war with Iraq. When General Powell, as reported by the Mike Morris and "Rumsfield's War" documentaries,
fabricates enemy weaponry reports for the U.N., we are then sure of the Bush administration's underlying interest in the oil
rich Middle East. Well the movie "Airforce One" put a fantastic angle on the U.S. President, hillarious to see him dangling
helplessly from an aeroplane ! Some good ethical stands were made by him too though, but the hijackers also had a point
to make I think, because even the recent documentary on the " Cutting Edge" called " Rumsfield's War" showed flaws in the
Iraqi civilian losses of the war. The doco gave a more official view than Mike Morris did, but still showed it up to
be a set up of the U.S. government. Rumsfield was only trying to limit the number of troop losses by promoting hi-tech
weapon use, but it turned out they hadn't really planned for Iraqi occupation well enough, other army officers having warned
that the large population of 200 million was a bigger task to tackle than the Iraqi standing army. The war
fields become really rum when sects start prophecying against the United States! The Mormons, as the religion of the United
States, prophecy peace and prosperity, and that even the Red Indians descended from the Jews which the United States ultimately
support. A book called "Survivors" takes this concept further however, and states that prophecies in Jerimiah and Daniel
point to the United States "Loosing its feathers" so to speak, due to an attack on Israel it is so supportive
of. However, I am skeptical of that being fulfilled in a nuclear strike by Russia with prophecies so devoid of technology
(except when describing God's movements in a strikingly UFO like phenominon in Ezekiel). I think back to the first proponents
of modern technology when Michael Angelo drew up plans for all kinds of equipment, long before Isaac Newton's physics discoveries,
including a helicopter! The story of a man at this renaisceance period who tried to fly, with crafted bird wings, describes
how he had used wax to affix feathers to these wings that strapped onto his arms. This was a great success, and the
man soared high into the sky, but up in the clear air the sun's rays became so hot, that they melted the wax and the feathers
all fell off! Now let me draw a parallel between this story and my current topic, oil, because wax in fact is derived from
oil itself. Now if the oil reserves of the world are being depleted at such a phenominal rate by jet planes and automobiles,
and it is predicted to run out mid-way through this century at any rate, would not the United States then loose its air-superiority?! H.L.
Wilmington agrees that the Revelation is describing an end time capital of evil in his book, " The King is Coming," pg 105.
However, his siting of Babylon as being rebuilt in its original location appears to be outweighed by the fulfilments of prophecy
listed by Josh McDowell, (in "Evidence that Demands a Verdict," pg.307.) These include the fact that Ancient Babylon has become
a quagmire where hardly a shrub can grow, inhabited only by wild animals as added reason to not even shepherd flocks there!
Peter Stoner points out that while some bricks and building materials have been taken from the ruins in contradiction to prophecy,
none of the great imported stones used to build the main establishments of the city can be removed because the city has sunk
below the water table after centuries of neglect! He adds that most ancient cities, like Queen Esther's dwelling place of
Susa, are on tourist routes, but Babylon is not. In fulfillment of the Prophecy in the Revelation to John in chapter 17,
that "Mystery Babylon" will be destroyed by the Anti-Christ, it appears there actually will be something like a
nuclear strike. It is specified as a capital of world trade like New York is today, and New York apparently is the only place
on earth that has a precinct titled "Babylon!" However, New York doesn't strike me as a particularly religious place,
is predominantly white in population, and is built on only one river island. The description of "Mystery Babylon" in the Revelation
seems to me to fit Sydney more adequately, with the many bays and harbour inlets, boasts of multi-culturalness, and every
religious or cultic establishment you can think of! This includes the biggest Muslim Mosque I have seen in all my travels
from Jakarta to Bombay! Now I was propositioned with the stakes of living in China when I was at Port Stephens,
and contrasted with the apparent freedom I have in Australia. However, I stated that I felt almost as endangered as a
Christian in Australia as I would in China! I was given supposed re-assurance that I was not likely to be shot for my faith
in Australia like I would be in China, but this was from people whose theology does not allow for a fate worse than
death! So it isn't any wonder they are smug in their situation, which seems to take comfort in airforce jets keeping vigil
in the skies above Port Stephens. What they fail to see is that the temptations and seductions of Australian society
and TV is more dangerous to their faith than anyone with a gun! A bullet in the head is the most painless way to die, but
to be mentally harrassed by a perverted civilisation for the greater part of your life, is far more soul destroying! This
is without even mentioning suspected persecutions due to the number of occurrences of debauchery , violence and even
demonisation being publicly marketted. Now when the News media and government suddenly starts to put a glaze over
their public profile by saying that crime is ceasing, it isn't any wonder when they themselves are the biggest crooks
in the country! The government promotes genocidal Mardi Gras and pornography, it has the power to stop the poignantly
terrorising product releases of Virtual Satanic Carnage, but will it? Is it that they are behind this moral degredation
of society because they are covering up their own atrocities? The majority wins in this world, but if they don't
consider the truth of Jesus Christ, who is from another world, they will soon be facing the higher powers of God Almighty,
long before Jesus Christ returns, because God has judged such governments throughout history! It won't matter what the ellection
poles say, they will be facing the angel of death! Now where is the real Synagogue of Satan, if not in the 'ten horned'
Sydney Operah House?! AHC!
